Millennium's Harbour Drama

On the 12th January 2009,  the cruise ship Millennium was visiting Sydney. It spent the first night at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay and was then moved across to the Athol Buoy outside of Taronga Zoo.

She was due to sail at 6.00pm and her passengers were being tendered over from Pier 2 at Walsh Bay and were due back by 5pm. While in the process of transferring the passengers, the Harbour Master noticed that the Millennium appeared to be drifting into the middle of the harbour. 

After calling the Captain to check if all was well, it was quickly established that she had in fact broken her bow lines to the mooring and was drifting with the help of a strong northerly wind.

The Sydney Ports boats were rushed to her aid and the Captain sent out the orders to start up her engines, while quickly raising her stern anchor, which was also a concern that they may soon cross and tangle.

The returning passengers were quickly 'hurled' aboard including two pesky passengers who were running late and had to be delivered by water taxi. Once aboard, the Millennium made a hasty retreat out to the safety of the Tasman sea.

Exciting new IATG website

The 2008 IATG committee are delighted to announce the launch of our 'new look' IATG website. We hope that all members and visitors to the site will find it user friendly, attractive and inviting. The site has many new and improved features, such as:

• More detailed search capabilities for employers looking for guides.

• Enhanced information of guide capabilities to find the best match of employer to guide.

• Corporate members will have increased advertising exposure via use of banners and will be encouraged to link our IATG site to their own websites.

• Professional members will be able to promote their skills by adding their own personal web page - referred to as a "Profile Page" - enabling them to present themselves in the best professional light without the expense of running an independent website. The page will be linked to their membership listing and will allow them to include a personalised website address on their business cards. They will also be able to use their web page to promote products and services that they recommend for quality and value.

• The committee will be highlighted on the website, so members will know who they are and what they do.

• Current member discounts, offers and industry promotions will be listed - members will be able to check at any time what offers are available to them.
  

• We have added the extra option of 'PayPal' to enable convenient online payment for events, membership renewals and other areas requiring payments.

The 'Welcome Newsletter' will be replaced by this "Welcome E-news" as from 2009. Each time an article is posted, an automatic email will be sent to all members notifying them of an update, members can just 'click' and it will take them to the site to view the latest news. This will mean the news will be up-to-date, regular and much easier to read.

We have also implemented a detailed calendar for all members to check for up and coming social events, meetings, famils, network opportunities and workshops. All members are encouraged to contribute to the calendar listings by emailing their information to the committee at any time.

So take a tour of our new exciting website, explore and check your listing. We encourage and welcome all feedback.
